3 Landscaping Trends to Incorporate in a Front Yard Landscape Design This Summer in Reno, NV

When you want something fresh and new for your Reno, NV, front yard landscape, look no further than the 2021 landscape design trends. Incorporating even one of these ideas can change the appearance of your front yard.

The Living Room in Front

We have come to expect the function of the back patio as another outdoor room but some homeowners have taken that room to the front of the house. With more people staying home to work and kids doing school online, having more outdoor space can make good sense. This is where the front yard living room comes into play.

Often there is a grassy area near the front door which can be replaced with a perfect paver patio of any size to provide more functional outdoor space for working from home, taking calls during the day, and providing a spot for some breathing room and privacy. Your landscaper can add a delightful water feature which can be free-standing or wall-mounted for the soothing sound of spilling water to bathe your frayed nerves.

For privacy from those who are walking by or neighbors who want to chat, have them add trellis walls on two sides where the breeze can still filter through but the view is obscured by pretty blooming vines.

Native is Preferable

Another popular trend is to incorporate as many native plants as possible in your front yard. The days of coaxing a shrub or tree or flower to grow because they saw one on vacation is over for many homeowners. Instead, they embrace the native beauty of plants and shrubs that are suited to the Reno climate and require less intervention.

Native plants retain all of the beauty of plants and flowers that you might find in a tropical paradise but they are much less work because they actually belong in the climate. Requiring less water, less weeding, and less attention, native plants still bring green beauty all year long and provide color through flowers, berries, and bark.

Lighting

Landscape lighting is the one thing you need to take your front yard from daytime into the nighttime. Subtle landscape lighting can bring out those features of your front landscape that might be lost in the light, making your front space feel completely different.

When your landscaper adds lighting to the entry of your driveway, coming and going from this space can be more visible and safer. Adding recessed or low level lights to the edges of the driveway can eliminate accidents or possible damage to the landscaping on the sides of the driveway since parking is easier. Lights for the walkway to your front entry can keep you and your guests from tripping over unseen cracks in the sidewalk and it creates a pretty play on light and shadows for the surface and surrounding plants.

Lighting to surround the perimeter of your front yard patio can be a must since using this space won’t only happen in the daylight. Your landscaper can add lighting to the trellis tops and to the water feature so that it takes on an ethereal appearance in the dark.

Lighting can be adjusted to be brighter in certain spots and dimmer in others but all of it can operate at the touch of a finger to your phone, making it one of the most flexible outdoor features you could have.
